Wednesday we found our way to the Capitol Area Food Bank...wow what a place. Places from all over D.C. donate food, personal care items and baby items to the food bank, these items are then separated into about 10 different categories. Most of the food/items are then distributed to smaller food banks located throughout the D.C. area. People are able to come to the site and get assistance. The lady whom did our orientation explained that they have many volunteer groups that come and help separate through the donated items daily, without these volunteers they would be very behind on separating through the items. It amazed me all the different items that are donated but also all the donated items that were expired and of no use to any humans...but the pigs got fed good:)....it also takes time to separate through these non useful items when someones time could have been put to better use.
