Random Images ~ in no particular order.

Metal detection and screening (shown above) at the entrance to Shaw Junior High was a little surprising to us. Security guards (also present in every hallway and near the lockers) work to prevent guns and other firearms from the public middle schools, a practice that other inner city schools and even elementary schools follow in Washington, DC.

Images from Shaw Junior High School ~ a public school with about 25 homeless families. We worked in small groups with students one afternoon. The compassion and comradery among the students felt contagious.

Amelia is coaching two students for upcoming standardized tests tests on geometry.

Luther Place Memorial Church on a sunny spring day. Though the first few days of our immersion were dreary and rainy, the last half was sunny. I decided to take this photo so that I would remember the appearance of the church on a bright day!
